Earlier this week, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on Apple’s plans to overhaul the retina MacBook Pro lineup for the first time in four years – which, understandably, sent the rest of the press into a frenzy.
However, in the course of his reporting, Gurman (who’s widely regarded to be the go-to source for Apple rumors and leaks) got one thing wrong.

The new computers have been in advanced testing within Apple since earlier this year, said one of the people, who didn’t want to be identified discussing products before their release. The MacBook Pros aren’t likely to debut at an event currently scheduled for Sept. 7 to introduce next-generation versions of the iPhone, according to one of the people. Apple spokesman Bill Evans declined to comment.
However, sources within Apple intimately involved with the planning of the September 7th event tells The Michael Report exclusively that Apple will, in fact, release the next-generation of retina MacBook Pros at the same event. The Michael Report has independently verified this information to be highly credible.
Given that the most powerful laptops in Apple’s hardware lineup have only received incremental updates in the past, the launch is expected to be met with great fanfare. The updated retina MacBook Pros will come in a thinner external profile, with beefed up CPU and graphic processing chips.
The thinner profile does not mean that features are going to be sacrificed: the most anticipated feature of the refresh is a touchscreen strip above the standard keyboard that can adapt to whichever application is open on-screen at any given time. This will not only allow those using the laptop to increase their productivity significantly (to help with this, Apple will also be increasing the size of the trackpad), but will also benefit them in the longer run as the touchscreen strip can be updated over-the-air instead of having to purchase brand new hardware.
A source close to Apple’s supply chain management indicated that the new retina MacBook Pros will ship around two months after the unveiling.
